The 'Revolution of Knowledge Work' project is studying the fusion of human creative potential and computational intelligence, in order support human cognition and free the knowledge worker’s time for sense-making, collaboration and creative thinking.
The working place would be in the Helsinki Institute of Information Technology (HIIT), directly supervised by Prof. Samuel Kaski, based in Otaniemi.

Job Description

We are looking for a candidate with strong skills in user interface design to create a web-based application. The application will be a user interface for our novel state-of-the-art information browsing system based on machine learning. The interface will be a research project and not for market; the software development model will be rapid prototyping. As such, concepting and information design skills will be an important contribution of the candidate.
The system is composed of several modules, and the user interface is a key component in it. As developer of the UI, you will work closely together with human-computer interaction and machine learning experts toward a functioning application. You will also have the responsibility for connecting the user interface web application to the other modules through the APIs; inter-process communication is realized through a RESTful JSON API.
The work will be carried out as a freelance position. The projected duration of the user interface development is approximately a month of full-time work.

Requirements

Necessary:
Passion for creative user interface design
- evidence of work
- preferred experience areas: website, mobile app, or game development
Desirable:
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in
- HTML5, JavaScript, CSS
- Client-side libraries; for example, jQuery, AngularJS.
- Python, PHP
Other valuable skills include
- skills in graphic design, vector graphics, illustration
- experience of version control systems, e.g., Git or Mercurial.
